I love this movie. It has everything: romance, comedy, quirkiness and a kissing-in-a-closet scene! Audrey Hepburn was as adorable and entertaining as ever, and this was the first time that I’d ever seen a Peter O’Toole movie and he was fabulous! He’s extremely funny and pretty darn spunky! You could just instantly fall in love with him, the second you saw those bewildered round blue eyes peering over the top of the “Van Gogh” painting. I didn’t find this movie boring for an instant and I loved watching them steal back the “Cellini” sculpture, using, amongst other things, a bucket, a magnet and a boomerang! I think that this is now my favourite Audrey Hepburn movie. They make an extremely likable couple and their exploits in “How To Steal A Million” are engaging and engrossing.

This movie I give a solid four stars, but Peter O’Toole gets five because it’s the most I could give. (Hey amazon, how about a little room for upward adjustment under extenuating circumstances like these?)

I’m an Audrey fan and she’s her usual delightful self in this movie, no longer the ingenue but every bit as lithe and fetching as ever. She was a dazzler, but in Peter O’Toole she met her match. He is something else — the Jude Law of his day, I suppose! (The highest of high compliments I give). In “How To Steal A Million” O’Toole is suave and self-assured but never arrogant … spectacularly good looking (hey, it’s not his fault) … witty but flawed, not what he seems and in the end, you’re glad of it. He can burgle my objects d’art any day!

The movie also has that very “1960’s” look and feel to it that allow you to time travel, but not so far back you feel as though you’ve been whiplashed when it ends. The ’60’s were in many ways more modern than the ’70’s, and played against the backdrop of Paris those burgeoning modern sensibilities find an excellent foil. Audrey is her usual “au courant” self, except for one scene in which she has to play a cleaning lady. Like Liza Doolittle, she would shine through a burlap sack.

O’Toole and Hepburn are very, very winning here. The assorted cast of characters are daffy but mostly harmless, and if I’m not completely mistaken, the movie does poke gentle fun at the French. (Not that terribly difficult to do, but then again we re-elected … oh, never mind).

For all of us who wondered how Cabot Cove wound up with any citizens left after all those murders in Jessica’s wake…take heart…the territory has been expanded into a whole British equivalent of a county (Midsomer) in the heart of Jolly Olde England, chock full of villages just simmering over with perfect villiany. This series is still going full steam in Britian. In fact a rerun of one on ITV recently out performed all original programming on the other channels. So it is just as appreciated in it’s homeland as it is becoming in the colonies. It is the epitome of well thought out murder plots brimming over with those gloriously quaint characters one only encounters in England. Long time Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (played by John Nettles) and his now third Deputy Inspector are forever unraveling unsavory goings on in towns as diverse as Carsten (evidently the urban center of the county) or villages like Midsomer Mallow where the citizens busy themselves about the business of building up petty hatreds and retributions galore. The pace is never too fast. The murder or murders are always diabolique or so interpersonally convoluted as to render you entranced at it’s revelation. While lacking the bitter sophistication of Morse…or the witty repartee of Poirot in another era…these murder mysteries will bequile you with their scenery, their down to earth eccentrics, and even DCI Barnaby’s happy home life (gone are the psychological demons attacking modern detectives and making them as miserable as the victims they encounter). None of that in Midsomer. You get the feeling Barnaby wouldn’t trade his job for a promotion to London in a million years, he’s content, but constantly amazed at the capacity for murder in his elysian fields. He has a loving wife and a grown daughter who keeps moving in and out of his life. The different villages are all interesting. Nobody does this murder business better than the British…period. It’s just a lark on all counts. At my house the wife, the kids, and the grandkids know that on Sunday evening it’s my Midsomer Murder night and woe to those who disturb me during those 100 minutes of mayhem.

Murders, and there are a lot of them, happen regularly in the villages of Midsomer County. The landscape is idyllically English, with ample greensward, manicured lawns, carefully trimmed hedges, cozy cottages and perfect gardens. The people of Midsomer County, ranging from working blokes to landed aristocrats, are for the most part well-mannered. Gossip is a cottage industry. If it weren’t for all the corpses, the villages and towns of Midsomer County would be a fine place to live. As it is, they’re a fine place to die.

Because of the corpses, we have Detective Chief Superintendent Tom Barnaby, unflappable, courteous, curious and relentless, with a sly, dry sense of humor that should make a smart murderer wary. DCS Barnaby is played by John Nettles, and it’s hard to say who is the more authentic, the actor or the character. The one thing for sure is that it’s a perfect fit. Nettles makes the series work. When he as Barnaby comes on the scene, we know we’re in for an intelligent, very British, understated and amusing series of lethal riddles and satisfying solutions.

The four 100-minute mysteries in Set 12 are:

Four Funerals a Wedding is set in Broughton during the annual Skimmington Fayre. This festival commemorates the superiority of Broughton’s women over the men. Only a chosen man who survives riding a course on a donkey while chosen women attempt to knock him off can change things. The man, of course, must ride backwards with a hood over his head. Needless the say, this time only the donkey finishes the ride.

Country Matters comes to Elverton when a supermarket is planned for the village. The construction site is easy to find. Just look for a corpse. And watch out for the lady in riding breeches carrying a whip.

Death in Chorus brings dueling church choirs to Midsomer Worthy during a crucial competition. Reputations are at stake, as well as artistic integrity and…well, let’s just say one of the choirs will soon be in need of a new tenor.

Last Year’s Model is something of a change for Barnaby. There’s a murder, of course, and Barnaby caught the murderer. But during her trial Barnaby begins to have doubts and decides to take another look at the evidence. This turns into an engrossing mystery drama. Last Year’s Model is a serious, taut look at a crime, with Barnaby racing against what could be an unjust verdict based on his own initial evidence.

The series features Jason Hughes as Detective Constable Ben Jones. He’s the third of Barnaby’s assistants and he’s carving out his own place. Hughes makes Ben Jones intelligent and ambitious, and smart enough to know he has much to learn from Barnaby. He can be cautious around Barnaby and is always respectful, but he’s also willing to speak his mind. Jane Wymark plays Joyce Barnaby, the Detective Chief Superintendent’s wife and Laura Howard is Cully, their daughter.

Considering how long this show has been running, it has maintained a remarkably high level of twisty plots, solid writing and Midsomer ambience. Nettles, of course, makes the series. Midsomer Murders will most likely continue as long as he wants to play Barnaby.

Thus utters “Wing Fat”, Japanese gangster and Wayne Newton lookalike, in Woody Allen’s “What’s Up, Tiger Lily?” in reference to a much-coveted secret egg salad recipe.
“What’s Up, Tiger Lily?” has, in my opinion, always been looked upon as Mr. Allen’s filmic poor relation. To the yuppified, nouvelle cuisine-eating self-appointed Allen “aficionados”, “Tiger Lily” is a cinematic Nathan’s hot dog. What a shame, because it is a very funny, unpretentious, inspired piece of nonsense. Mr. Allen took a 1960s Japanese James Bond [pretend] film, wiped out the dialogue track and, with the help of some very talented performers (including his then-wife Louise “Mary Hartman” Lasser), dubbed in some of the funniest dialogue ever heard on screen. I can’t even guess what the plot of the original film was (it’s actually pretty [darn] funny without the dialogue), but after Mr. Allen finished with it, the drama centers around the coveted egg salad recipe. The recipe has been stolen from Raspur, a “nonexistent yet real-sounding country”, and rival bad guys Shepperd Wong and Wing Fat both want it for their own sinister purposes. Hero Phil Moscowitz (played by Matt Helm [pretend] Tatsuo Mihashi) plays double agent in this mishigas (in between his womanizing shenanigans, unsuccesfully trying to seduce Japanese dolls Miss Teri Yaki and her sister Suki). One must wonder which filmmaker copied who, because actresses Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi, who played the Yaki sisters, both went on to star opposite Sean Connery in the James Bond opus “You Only Live Twice” a few years later! I won’t go any further into the plot line of this film, thin as it is, nor will I spoil the fun by quoting the dialogue, but I will simply say that the film is very, very funny and not for the slow-witted. The dialogue is a rapid-fire combination of Borscht Belt humor, and also prefigures the hilarious, brainy quips uttered by the 2 robots on “Mystery Science Theater”. There’s the obligatory cartoon violence (kick, punch, chop, shoot) and a somewhat superfluous musical score by John Sebastian and The Lovin’ Spoonful, and footage of the 1960s rock group is interspersed throughout the film. Undoubtedly this was added to the film to attract the “young, hip” audience. At least the clothes, hairdos and dance steps of the “young folk” are worth a few laughs! And, of course, there are brief filmed interviews with Woody Allen himself, deadpanning and double-talking his way through all of this, making it even funnier, and a striptease by voluptuous China Lee, a former Playboy Playmate, providing even more Asian eye candy for the horndog viewers. “What’s Up, Tiger Lily?” is a very enjoyable 89 minutes, but be warned-an hour later, you’ll be hungry for more laughs again!

Beware : this is an edited version of What’s Up Tiger Lily. Some of the dialogue has been changed or erased, resulting in a far less funny movie than it originally was. I have no idea who is responsible for the butchering of this film - whether Woody authorized it or not - but it is not the movie I have seen 10+ times.

This special holiday DVD of Keeping Up Appearances includes double length episodes that I do not think I’ve ever seen aired on my public broadcasting station. “Sea Fever” features Hyacinth and Richard on the famous QE2. Unbeknownst to Hyacinth, Onslow and Daisy win a contest to spend a cruise on the QE2 as VIP guests, enjoying all the things Hyacinth feels entitled to. When Hyacinth spots them, she assumes they must be stowaways and, with the reluctant but obedient Richard in tow, races around the ship to find them so she can protect them (well, Daisy at least) from the authorities. Viewers get to tour the ship with Hyacinth!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Keeping Up Appearances - Deck the Halls with Hyacinth! Click Here

The other double length special also includes a treat. “Angel Gabriel Blue” does not really have a holiday atmosphere, but fans of Are You Being Served? will no doubt recognize Trevor Bannister who played the role of the popular Mr. Lucas. A Bannister bio is also available in Hyacinth’s guest book on the disc.

The most Christmasy episode is “A Very Merry Hyacinth” where Richard, dressed like Father Christmas, gets drunk with Emmet and Elizabeth must take Richard’s place as Father Christmas without Hyacinth knowing. The other episode is “Historical Pageant.” The DVD includes monologues of Patricia Routledge’s Kitty character from “Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV” from the early/mid 1980s. Her jokes are veeeery British and I can’t comprehend 3/4 of them, but the character was definitely a precursor to Hyacinth Bucket. Cast bios are also included.

For those who would just like the holiday specials, this DVD is a great buy. If you are a big fan of the show, however, I highly recommend The Full Bouquet. It has this DVD plus 7 others with all the episodes and lots of extras.

This is by far the funniest episodes of Keeping up appearances all put together. I bought this mainly for the christmas episode but I love the others as well.

That’s the answer that Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) gives when asked why the heck he was wrenching off the tops of all those parking meters. The first shot of the movie, in fact, shows his handiwork — a whole row of decapitated meters sticking up out of the sidewalk.

He’s one odd boy, this Luke. He hardly even seems to care he’s in stir for having done this. To him a work farm just seems like another place for him to wait for something interesting to happen — and when it does (as it always does), there’s that big, lazy smile of his. Was he waiting for something? Probably not — by the time it’s all over, he hasn’t gotten a single thing he wanted (except for a hilarious out-of-town stint), but he’s given a lot of other people more than they could have ever asked.

What makes “Cool Hand Luke” such a wonderful movie is its tone and tenor — widely imitated but not surpassed by other movies of its stripe. The movie is not about prison or chain gangs, but about the weather of a man’s spirit, and how he deals (or chooses not to deal) with what he’s been handed. Luke himself says it: “Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand,” and he sums himself up in that sentence. Here is a fellow with no particular skills in life, no real direction, no ambition — in short, something we are ostensibly taught from the git-go to hate. His crime? Parking meters.

The film draws a simple case: Luke as a quietly selfish free spirit vs. the system. But instead of loading it down with symbolic baggage, the movie works by making its case with drama and often great humor. The egg-eating contest, for instance — it finds just the right balance between humor and drama to make its points, and ends with Luke passed out on the bed in a Christlike pose. (Whether or not that’s a deliberate shot is open to speculation; it certainly looks like it was composed, but it’s not held too long to force the issue on us.)

The best thing about the movie is the performances. Nobody hits a false note or an unconvincing turn. A big chunk of George Kennedy’s reputation comes from this film, and you can see why: he’s more or less the direct foil for Paul Newman throughout the movie, commenting on and playing off the man’s actions. But look how many others are also in here: Strother Martin (as Captain), Dennis Hopper, Harry Dean Stanton… a veritable roll-call of actors who’re all independently watchable and fascinating.

This movie is anything but cool. The characters are rough, foul, and awkward. The setting is realistic and harsh. It takes place in the scorching sun and humidity. There’s many a scene of sweat and overheating men. Luke, though, is cool. He’s the figure of composure; he’s classy, smart, proud, and witty, but he rarely talks, keeping aloof. Or he’s independent free man who won’t let anyone get him down.

There’s a scene when he bluffs his way to victory in a poker match, thus his nickname “cool hand Luke”. Another scene has him fighting with another inmate until he’s nearly unconscious, but he never surrenders. Yet another has him eating 50 eggs in an hour for a bet, and he doesn’t give up. And I think this is the metaphor for the rest of the film. You can either see him as a cocky stubborn man, or more appropriately, a man who won’t give up his freedom. He’s thrown in prison and chain gang labor for a case of petty vandalism during a drunken stupor, yet he never utters a word about it, even during the most humiliating or painful punishment, but his conviction and sentence are hardly a matter in this film. Here is a man who is troubled and dysfunctional (as the story slightly exposes), but is already in an advanced state of personal freedom. Though he’d like to be living a normal life, searches for it, and deserves as much, he doesn’t need it. He’s spiritually and mentally invincible, and eventually it leads to his ultimate fate.

Cool Hand Luke is a marvelous film. It’s one fourth romantic, three fourths gritty reality. Paul Newman and the gorgeous cinematography are the romance. Newman nearly carries the film. Here’s this movie star, a charismatic leading man who liberally uses his smile to get himself through scenes, but he immerses himself into his character. I think Luke is one of the greatest, most complex male characters to grace the screen, and Newman is really the only actor who could ever do him justice. But he isn’t playing Newman, he’s playing Luke, every inch of Luke. He IS Luke, he is this renegade rebel, this charming dapper Dan, and this tragic everyman. Newman’s supporting cast is superb, in one of the best acted films I’ve ever seen. George Kennedy is incredible as the only sizable supporting character, though the rest of the cast do their utmost to fit their roles, especially the various sinister and slimy wardens, and they do it beautifully. No actor wastes his time on screen. They create the atmosphere.

I just have to mention the dialogue. This is one of those films with incredible dialogue. Nothing is sappy or soupy. It embraces wit and logic, a lovely razor sharpness, and a down to earth realism. Every sentence is perfectly placed, there are no superfluous words, every character with they’re own style that still allow them to sound like real people. End of dialogue discussion.

This film is simple. It’s simply told, simply filmed, and on the outside it’s a simple story, but I think it delves a lot deeper than at first appearance. It’s unpretentious. Without us knowing it paints an environment, it paints a setting. It’s a movie with certain faintly stylized points and flourishes, with a bit of a Southern storytelling air and lilt to it, and a definite love for fun. But it’s intense, from the acting, to plot twists and character developements, to minor “action” sequences (a movie populated by inmates and movie stars has to have some excitement), it has incredible depth in it’s subtle symbolism and it’s layered messages and it’s performances with their emotional tapestries. Thus, it has an immense replayability quotient.

This is drama at it’s finest. It is a complex intriguing film that can get under your skin in it’s rawness, but can still entertain you, and send you into that dreamy mesmerized state of being in awe of a film and the characters portrayed in it.

I am not going to preface this with any grand statements about being a BSG fan from day one. If I am taking the time to write this, you should suspect that already.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Battlestar Galactica: The Plan! Click Here

This movie really works in that it is a quiet story in a very noisy room. It is about how life finds ways to disrupt our plans but not always in a bad way. It is about reconciling what you think you want with what actually want. It is about learning “the truth” isn’t always in the safe black and white places we create. It is about love in all its forms.

First, about the nudity. It exists. Get over it. BSG was never a “family friendly” show given its themes, so if you were expecting something different here, then you are about to be sadly mistaken. There are no basic cable broadcast guidelines to satisfy, so a story can be told in whatever way the storytellers wish. The nudity is not gratuitous or in your face, so deal with the fact it is just another adult theme that BSG can use without restriction now.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Battlestar Galactica: The Plan! Click Here

Here is the crux of it: at its heart, this movie is about how the Cylons intended on destroying humanity for their perceived wrongs against the Cylon race, and how that plan changed literally everyone. In the real world, it would have been nice to have been able to film scenes with all of the cast members, but monetarily that was not to be - everyone (including Lucy Lawless, contrary to another review here) is represented through previous footage in some fashion. Jane Espenson wound all their stories together in a beautiful fashion, and Edward James Olmos mixed the stock footage together with the new that it was at times hard to tell which was which. The story was engaging enough that I could suspend the fan’s critical eye for the first running of the movie, and just enjoy the story Ms. Epenson and Mr. Olmos told.

Will you like it? Hard to tell, but only because I don’t know you. If you sit back and let the story unfold, you will most likely find this an engaging work and a worthy addition to the BSG canon. If you are watching this to see (fill in your favorite actor here)’s story expanded, you might be out of luck - and you also might be missing the point. This is a quiet story not always about specific individuals, but rather about how an individual can affect others and how that ripples through even the most well laid out plan. It is an intimate story told on a grand pallette, and thanks to the people in front of and behind the camera, it works beautifully.

I started watching The Plan really skeptical; I read all the reviews here, and thought it was going to be mediocre at best, as all the negative reviews seem to be saying that in unison.

However, I was really pleasantly surprised. I can understand how some people might be disappointed with The Plan, it doesn’t, after all, answer some of the questions left hanging in the air after the series finale. It doesn’t have the space battles or insane intensity of some of BSG’s better episodes. It doesn’t include some of the most important characters (Laura Roslin, Apollo, Starbuck).

But The Plan was never planned or written, I think, as a nostalgia film that is supposed to exploit our feelings for these characters to milk us for some cash. Instead, it has decided to do something bold: to tell an entirely new story that connects with what we already know, happening at the same time as what we’ve seen during the first two seasons of BSG.

It’s the story of how the Cylons, each in different situations and living amongst different humans were in fact influenced by those humans. We see them developing genuine empathy, and utter hate. We see some renouncing their Cylon identity because of what they’ve done. We see them questioning their actions. We see them at their most brilliant, but also at their most incompetent. We see them for what they truly are: the imperfect creations of imperfect creations. In the end, the moral is simple: it’s easy to kill someone from space with a nuke. It’s hard to kill someone looking them in the eye.

If your going to watch The Plan expecting some grand revelations about the loose ends in the series finale, then you will come out disappointed. But if you watch The Plan looking for a really well written movie, with some terrific performances, some new insights into Cylon thinking, or just for a little nostalgia, you wont be disappointed.

So, if you choose to buy this DVD, judge it on it’s own merits.

I’m a mom. I enjoy the warmth and humor shared between the Pokemon characters, and I admire the cartoon makers for their ingenuity. Most of all, I appreciate the values of friendship, kindness and responsibility that the Pokemon stories teach. There are no really bad guys in Pokemon movies– just people or beings who aren’t thinking clearly. And there are no hard feelings in the end. Everyone comes to an understanding. In this movie, little Molly has been motherless. Then she loses her father. So, feeling her world spinning out of control, she kidnaps a new mom and creates a powerful dad Pokemon and becomes extremely dominating. She is afraid of being hurt again, so she encapsulates her abode in spiky crystals. Excellent psychology! Yet in the end, she has to face reality and learn to cope as a lonely child, with the help of friends, of course. No fairy tale, happy-ever-after-with-the-prince endings. Pokemon movies give real lessons in living. I watched my child soaking in lessons about coping and also about having empathy for others.

I wasn’t sure if this movie would be anywhere near as good as Revelaton Lugia, the second Japanese Pokémon movie. However, when I saw the original Japanese version in January, I knew that it was! Something previously unheard of in a Pokémon film was developed: a plot! In this movie, the characters all have clear, simple objectives and we know from the start what this film is going to be about. This doesn’t mean that the movie doesn’t have its moments of suspense. This structure simply allows the movie to progress more ‘naturally’, without some of the restrictive assumptions that were made in the first two films, such as having Pikachu in every other frame!

The Spell of the Unown tells the story of the legendary Pokémon Entei and the Unown, and how one little girl’s unhappiness almost brought about disaster. The movie starts with the Molly’s (the little girl) father disappearing. We also learn later that her mother has disappeared also. Feeling alone and sad, Molly discovers the box of Unown letters that had been found where her father was last seen. These letters (which are symbols of the Unown) summon forth a hoard of Unown, that seem to sense her unhappiness and try to make her wishes come true. Thus, the legendary Pokémon Entei is summoned, whom Molly believes to be her father. The Unown form a crystal tower around the mansion where Molly lives, which slowly begins to extend into the surrounding countryside. Also, Molly asks Entei to find her a mother. Once kidnapped, Ash begins his efforts to rescue her from Molly’s ‘crystal tower’.

I won’t spoil the ending for you, but the message behind this movie is that of the bond between parents and their children. All of the Pokémon movies have themes (in Mewtwo Strikes Back we learned that senseless fighting was wrong - in the second movie the theme was that of believing in yourself), and this movie is the first to portray that message so clearly inside the film. One of the final scenes in the end credits is that of Molly being reunited with her real mother.

The ‘Pichu and Pikachu’ short was great! Perhaps not quite so good as the original ‘Pikachu’s Summer Vacation’ but still great. For the first time, the original Japanese music was carried over from Japan and left in the US editon. I am all for this as the US music tends to be somewhat inappropriate for the shorts, always being far too kiddy.

As usual, the animation and CGI are up to their normal high standards, and the background music for the film was very good. Again, it was a shame that the movie score was made overly ‘poppy’, but this was balanced out by the retention of the original score for the short ‘Pichu and Pikachu’. The music for the short was all carried over from the original Japanese production.

Overall, this movie is evidence that the US producers have listened to fans’ requests to keep to the original storyline as much as possible. It’s also nice to see that this film was completely Tracy free! This film is recommended to all ages, even those who may find the television series a little stodgy. Most parents won’t have much say in it anyway…

This movie is an all-time classic and easily rates five stars. The DVD version, however, is absolutely atrocious. Very poor sound quality and a washed out picture with color so bad it looks almost like it’s in black and white. This movie was filmed in sumptuous Technicolor, but you’d never know it from this DVD. The VHS release of several years back is far superior. No DVD extras either, just a lousy print and nothing else. Is this the best they could do?

This is a perfect gem of a movie that screams for a major restoration! Until that happens, steer clear!

Although this is better than the unwatchable Madacy DVD, it still is horrible. There is 60 Hz hum throughout the audio, audio that is distorted and clipped, and a rather grainy, noise full video print. Max Steiner’s inventive variation-on-a-theme music score is ruined.

If this is the best that can be done with this delightful movie, it is a true pity.

Someone, please restore this to glory.

It’s so odd to see that the final season of Walker, Texas Ranger, especially with Walker, Trivette, Gage, Sydney and Alex rather than seeing C.D. Parker in early seasons. But anyway, here are the episodes that are on the 9th and final seaosn. (The show debuted in the spring of 1993 so it technically has aired as a mid-season replacement before being ordered a full season that fall.)

Great show but next time they should start from the first season. Not the last.

I am like many people who have been waiting for this series to come out onto DVD - excited that it is finally happening, but also a bit perplexed as to why the last season and not the first. The only thing I can think of is that this season is being released first to pay tribute to Noble Willingham who played CD Parker. CD Parker dies in the last season (He’s never seen again after mid-Season 8 but the Rangers are informed of his death and CD’s funeral is shown in the fourth episode of this season - and then the nature of his death is revealed in the series finale). Noble Willingham died January 2004. He left the series to run for a political office (and lost).

As for this season itself, the season starts after the wedding of Alex and Cordell and ends with the birth of their child. It includes many good (perhaps even great) episodes such as:

“Home of the Brave”: (the season’s first episode) Walker struggles to rescue a boy trapped in the basement of an apartment building after a bomb was detonated.

“White Buffalo”: A statue of a white buffalo begins to shed tears at the same time the Texas Rangers are battling a new drug called ‘White Buffalo’.

“Faith”: Dionne Warwick plays a grandmother raising her granddaughter (who desperately needs an organ transplant to live).

“Desperate Measures”: Gage unknowingly travels with two escaped convicts after his motorcycle breaks down.

“Legends”: Martial arts legends (such as Bill ‘Superfoot’ Wallace and Don ‘The Dragon’ Wilson) make a guest appearance.

“Without a Sound”: Gage loses his hearing from a car-jacking gone wrong.

“6 Hours”: As known as ‘HeatherCam’ A young woman is kidnapped and her death is planned to be viewed live from the Internet.

“Division Street”: Hulk Hogan plays a former gang member whose life got turned around and now struggles to help rescue the other gang members on the street by opening a community center.

This season also includes a 4 part storyline that I call “The Wizard” (”The Winds of Change”; “Lazarus”; “Turning Point”; “Retribution”) in which the Texas Rangers enlist the help of a computer hacker serving time in prison to battle another hacker that’s getting undercover law enforcers killed.

These and about a dozen more episodes can be found in this final season. Even if this was to become the only season to be released (which I highly doubt) at least there are some good episodes to watch.

Menace II Society is the story of Caine (Tyrin Turner) a young man living in Watts, Los Angeles. From the very beginning of the movie we follow Caine with an early flashback to his childhood to start . Caines narrative voice is found all throughout this movie. Things start off violent, and never really stop, from beginning to end there is bloodshed, but theres alot more than just violence in this movie, Caine lives a day to day existence, and its only in the end that he realizes whats important to him- Ronnie (Jada Pinkett), her son, his family and living. Other main character is Caines best friend 0-Dog (Larenz Tate) who is young, black and doesnt [care], his presence in movie is really a powerful one, and his lack of conscience contrasts with Caines. Movie also stars Vonte Sweet, Samuel L. Jackson and Glenn Plummer. Produced by Darin Scott & the Hughes Brothers. Tyrin Turner a still virtually unknown actor is excellent in this movie, and in my opinion deserves alot more credit than he has gotten. To say this movie is just powerful is an understatment, and to compare it to Boyz N the Hood is wrong too. There are some similarities, but Menace II Society is alot darker, and wasnt made to please the masses. Maybe thats why I like it so much, because the story is realistic and the makers dont play down the violence to get mainstream appeal. Would like to talk about some of key scenes but you dont do that when writing a review for people who havnt seen the movie, all I will say is this movie is definetly worth watching, and if your like me and really enjoy it, its worth having in the collection.

Menace II Society. An odd name for a movie, you think on initial glimpse. Why II, and not to? Who’s the menace? You pick up the box. There’s a picture of two black kids on the front. OK, you read summary. It doesn’t tell you much. So, by this point intrigued, you rent it. Good for you.
Menace starts out in a convience store. There’s confrontation, and soon, two people are dead. The gunman is smiling and opening the register. His friend, Kane, screams at him and shivers with panic. We fade, and begin the story of Kane’s life.
If you’re the average white person living in America, what you hear in rap music and see on the news must be very distant from you.
Allen and Albert Hughes grapple us with their genius storytelling skills, and quickly, show us what we’re so secure not to know. The daily living, the blood, the drugs, the not caring. What do these mean? The main character, Kane, is mixed up in all of it.
To himself, he wants out- way out- of his hoodlum life. Externally however, he wants in. He’s never shot anybody, he’s the clean one. But he sells drugs. He knows how to kill someone. He’s been friends with people who have. Here we see his internal struggle to get out in stunning visual perspective.
The film itself has an expert way about it of opening our eyes to the culture, the environment, the lack of consequences, the police brutality- All of it, while still maintaining assemblence of structure in where it wants to go.
Most of this movie is painful to watch. Seeing Kane fall down his path of righteousness and commit sins he scoffed his brethren for commiting just days earlier. Seeing innocent lives be torn by misunderstanding. Seeing utterly meanless death. It should hurt to watch- the directors made sure of it- that’s why it’s so poignant.
The aforementioned sins that Kane commits jump into his future as well. Every time he has a chance to escape, he’s pulled right back into the circle by something he himself did. As Kane matures and finds his way, the circle flows into it. It’s reminicent of Michael Corleone in The Godfather.
Some other noticible traits of the film- it’s incredibly stylistic when it wants to be, but graphically gritty others. Also, it does a good job of displaying irony- like a scene when Kane and friend walk down the street speaking of how the Bible won’t help them- with crosses dangling from their necks. The use of fades, especially toward the beginning of the film, is well-timed and welcome.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Menace II Society is a worthless piece of garbage about violence far from home. Maybe we don’t need to see it. But that violence is real- and it’s not so far away. I don’t think I’m wrong. I think, that after this movie is finished, you’ll be very glad you rented it.
